Chiriwhat?

If you’re asking yourself what Chirimena is, you’re not alone. As a matter of fact, many Venezuelans asked themselves, only five years back, the same question. Chirimena? What? Where?
It’s nothing like Cancún, the Riviera or Ibiza and no comparison is intended. There are no monstrous although beautiful three hundred apartment condos like in Miami starting somewhere in the three-quarter million dollars. You won’t find anything close to huge shopping centers, not even small (there are some in Higuerote, about 20 minutes away, fairly good paved road). What you’ll find and probably see is what it’s going to be. In other words, Chirimena is one of those places that you wish you had known before. It’s much like what Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, or Choroní or Margarita in Venezuela used to be some twenty five or thirty years back, but with a little more. Chirimena is available all year round (Venezuela is NOT in the hurricane belt although we have our rainy season and not too often scary tropical storms), definitively cooler when it’s hot in Miami or the Rivera, and much warmer when it’s cold up there, and with very little sea water temperature variation.
And what else is so good about Chirimena?
Depends on what you’re looking for.
We have the basic and adequate utilities, good enough for an off-season small fishing village near a big city like Caracas (less than two hours away, very good roads, two express ways, plenty of traffic): electricity with ups and downs, running water (no sewage), garbage collection works most of the time. We also have abundance of very friendly and happy local people (most anybody in Chirimena can teach you how to play and dance ‘tambores’, a local spicy drum beat), astonishing scenery, very good fishing, open spaces, land for sale at very attractive prices and even vacation homes may be available, very low property taxes. On top, close to Chirimena we have a world-class deep water diving site, in Farallon Centinela (look it up in Google), ecotourism, walking distance beaches. Of course we get our share of the bad things that come with our modern world, especially during week-ends and high seasons. Maybe is not as bad as other places but, nevertheless, is there and caution is always recommended. Currency, politics? Our view is that we’re getting excess of bad and unfair publicity (Fidel and that sort of thing), so that’s why se say that our message is very short and simple: Venezuela is full of surprises but it’s no gamble. There is much going on already but if you’re looking or wondering where the next boom town in the Caribbean is, you may not want to overlook Venezuela, and much less Chirimena, and there you’ll find Delicias, a small posada but a piece of paradise
